Englewood Arts

Strings Attached

In the Fall of 2002, Englewood Arts introduced Strings Attached as an after-school program of beginning violin instruction for Englewood elementary school students. That inagural year, the program was limited to Clayton and Maddox schools, grades 3 through 5 only. The following year, Charles Hay Elementary School was added, and the curriculum was expanded to included grade 2 and cello instruction. The remaining schools, Bishop and Cherrelyn, were added in January of 2004.

Since it's inception, hundreds of Englewood students have participated in the program. Three students have been accepted into the Denver School of the Arts.

Strings Attached is operated by Englewood Arts with cooperation of the Englewood Public Schools. Tuition and instrument rental is kept to a minimum so all interested students may enroll. Scholarship assistance for tuition and instrument rental has been provided by Kolacny Music, Englewood WalMart, and KidQuest. Major funding and support for Strings Attached is provided by:

  The Denver Foundation
  The Fine Arts Foundation
  Ralph Schomp Motors
  Denver Young Artists Orchestra
  Englewood Education Foundation
  Xcel Energry Foundation
  PTSOs of participating schools
  Schramm Foundation
Federal Dept of Education PEAK Grant

Each year, two sessions follow the school year: Fall and Spring. For continuing students, sessions of eight weeks are held during July and August. And, students who have moved on to area Middle Schools may continue to attend advanced classes and participate in Ensemble classes.

Plato declared, " I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for in the patterns of music and all the arts are the keys of learning."
